Corrections to above review

Rating: 9 ;) I've made corrections on all the other points you suggested. Thanks for that feedback, it was very helpful! The reason I selected a rating of 7.5 is because there are times where I don't feel in the mood for playing a long strategic game of MECCG, but would rather play another game tha...

My review of MECCG

Criticism, corrections, and comments welcome! Overview: With the recent hype following the Lord of the Rings movies, anything remotely connected to the LOTR was a good marketing strategy, so it's not surprising that a great deal of Tolkien themed games have been made in the last few years. The Middl...

MPs for defeating a hazard creature played on-guard?

If a hazard creature card is played on guard, and is defeated after the automatic attack at a site has been defeated, does the player who defeated it get its MPs? Why or why not?

I have typed out part of an example game here:

Perhaps it will be helpful to new players, I know it was helpful to me!

Learning ideas? How about this one: A written annotated example game between two challenge decks would be an excellent way of enabling new players to see the rules in action, get a sense of the game, and explain what is going on. New players would learn more from this than by only reading the rules,...

Sideboarding mostly helps you with the second time you are going through your play deck, correct? Because you can move cards from your sideboard to your discard pile, so you can only actually start using those cards when you have finished your play deck, and you shuffle your discard pile (including ...

Sideboard in Challenge Decks

Another question about the Challenge Decks (got my set in the mail recently!): How essential is the sideboard in the Challenge Deck? For a beginner, is it possible to play with the Challenge Deck and simply not use the sideboard at all (allowing Free Council to be declared at 20 MPs?) Or is the side...

There's a nice picture of the front cover of "Mastering Middle Earth" here:

Looks like a fairly thick paged book.

Unfinished games on GCCG

On GCCG, is there a way to find out how many unfinished games you have, and who they are with?

Thanks for the helpful reply. So only using Starter Movement is slow and tedious? Is the game ever played only with Starter Movement? I'm especially wondering if it is good for newbies to begin playing only with Starter Movement, or whether it is better immediately to play with Region Movement as we...

Hero Cards in Minion Challenge Decks

I've mentioned before that I intend to go for the Challenge Decks, just getting the five Wizard/Hero Challenge Decks. The five Minion Decks seem a little complex, and I figure I will have my hands full playing just the Hero ones (plus I don't think I will enjoy playing as the "bad guy"). So I only i...

Starter movement vs Region movement

As a newbie, I have been trying to understand the difference between starter movement and region movement. If I understand it rightly: * starter movement is fixed and determined by the location cards * region movement enables the player to decide which adjacent regions he will move through (with the...

Introductory Turn Summary for Beginners

A roughly translated, slightly edited, and mildly expanded version of the Dutch file found here: http://fan.theonering.net/morgulrats/turnsumm.html Please point out any corrections or important omissions. I'm not 100% sure I got the preparation stage correct, particularly the part about creating a s...
