GCCG: "Bad file descriptor" when updating

Post by EndersGame » Wed Apr 12, 2006 2:30 pm

I'm trying to update my GCCG software (amongst other reasons, in order to play MTG with a friend).  However, when running the "Update Everything.bat" file, I'm finding that the update fails at this point:
Fetching module list [4]
=> available.xml
Connecting to failed: Bad file descriptor.
This then retries over and over, without success.

Any suggestions?  I get the same error if I try "Install MTG.bat" or any of the other *.bat files.

Thanks in advance for any insights/tips!

Problem solved. For the benefit of anyone else with the same issue, here's the fix:

1. edit file "installed.xml" in \GCCG\xml directory
2. replace this line: &nbsp; <source url=""/>
with this one: <source url="http://gccg.buonanno.org" />

All *.bat files now work fine for updating and installing.

Right; that's indeed that old problem, as described in that other thread. Anyone who tries to update a very old client (not updated in the past 5 months or so) still has that hurdle to pass.

For the less technical: the simplest way to solve it is just to wait it out. May take about an hour, I think, but unless you're on dial-up and / or pay for internet access by the minute, that doesn't really matter much, right?

To the visitor wandering in here looking for further details / with more questions about it: please continue in that other thread - locking this one now.
