New to Middle Earth CCG

Post by Warlord of Gondor » Tue Feb 27, 2007 4:16 pm

So, I'm a newbie to the game.

Is getting the Challenge Box with the 10 challenge decks worth getting? I found it for only $41 bucks but would want to know if it's best to get it. Should I also get the Dragon's Booster Set?

Welcome!

The challenge decks are a very good way to learn how to play.  You can find deck lists at the bottom of the first post in this thread.  $42 isn't too expensive, but it also isn't the cheapest you'll find.  eBay usually has such items even cheaper (I've seen as low as $25/box).  Dragons boosters are of course nice to get.  The Dragons expansion is one of the most fun -- and dangerous!

While you're introducing yourself, perhaps you'd like to join the Global Playerlist?  If so, just send me an email or or a private message with your name, city, country, email address, and whether you would like to receive a newsletter email from the Council of Elrond (the international governing authority for MECCG) 4 times per year.

Also, you may find that the easiest way to get in touch with other players for a game is through GCCG.  Hope to see you there one of these days!...

Hi and Congratulations for trying out the best CCG ever invented!

If you're new and just want to try out the game and learn the basic game mechanisms, the Challenge-Decks are really good for doing that. $41 is maybe not the cheapest price you potentially could get, but it's quite acceptable...

Getting a booster-display from The:Dragons is worth its price when you stick to the game and try to build your own decks. If you only want to play a game here and then, the preconstructed Challenge-Decks are everything you need (If you don't care about $20, you could buy the booster-box anyway)

Yours, Markus

Thanks for such quick replies!  8O Faster then I expected. I'm an avid player of several other TCG's and such (LOTR and Anachronism are my favorites) and I usually try to go for the best ways to get my card counts up fast so that way I got a chance against the vets.

I actually never meant to join this game. When I first heard it, I thought it was a knockoff of LOTR. But, then when I was online, looking around for some other stuff, I got onto a site with one of the avid players who was talking all about it. Well, some more reascearch ended up with me wanting to play the game.

Really wierd how that happens.

So, does the challenge decks come with doubles of each card? Or do they have like only some doubles and some singles?  :?

Hi and welcome Warlord of Gondor!

The other guys have provided some sound advice already, but I would like to emphasize that GCCG, the software package that enables online play of MECCG, is a great place to meet fellow players and learn the game.

Oh, can you please reduce the size of your avatar graphic to a size that doesn't distort the text of the posts.

Thanks

To answer your question about the number of cards in the challenge decks: each deck is a complete deck with all the cards you need to play it.  Each one contains 3 rares (none of the rares will duplicate each other), plus a bunch of commons/uncommons.  With the commons, they will overlap a bit from deck to deck, and some decks have multiples of some cards.  When you're building an MECCG deck, you can have up to 3 copies of each non-unique card and 1 copy of each unique card in the deck.  So the challenge decks stick to those rules as well.  I find they are one of the best (maybe the best?) ways to get into the game, since it gives you a look at cards from different sets.

Okay. That was going to be my next question, if they just stick to one set. But, thankfully not.  :D

Oh, is my new avatar small enough? I can't see it because it has a white box with a red x.

I don't see your avatar at all, actually (in Firefox 1.5).'

I just tried in Internet Explorer 6, but I just see the red X, and looking at the properties, it seems to think your avatar is located at this address: http://metw_imrahil1.jpg/.  Do you have it posted on the web somewhere?
