[UEP, Failed] Crept Along Carefully not duplicable

Post by Thorsten the Traveller » Tue Sep 14, 2010 7:58 am

Name: Crept along Carefully not duplicable

Status: Proposed

Proposal maintainer: Thorsten the Traveller

Categories: Balance, Consistency

Errata: hero Permanent-event
"Playable on a company during the organization phase. The company cannot use starter movement or move to an Under-deeps site. In addition, if they move with region movement, they are limited in all cases to 3 regions maximum and their hazard limit is reduced by one (to a minimum of two). Discard this card from play and make a roll to attempt to cancel an attack against them by an opponent's company. If the roll plus the number of rangers in the company is greater than 7, the attack is canceled. Discard when any play deck is exhausted or, if you choose, during your organization phase. Cannot be duplicated on a given company."

Rationale:
Balance: with a big company the hazard limit will be reduced to 2, which makes effective hazard play rather non-existent. It is not possible to get rid of Crept Along Carefully as it is a resource, which means the mechanism of increased danger with increased company size is permanently circumvented. Also, the region-movement reduction is not duplicated with each copy, so the penalty for using this card is lessened.

Consistency: the minion version of this card -Going Ever under Dark- is almost exactly its counterpart, except that this one is non-duplicable. It is pretty unclear why for minions it should be deemed unwise to duplicate this card, and for heroes it shouldn't. It seems like another ICE oversight as a result of the careless production of the Balrog expansion.

Pros: no more issues of inbalance.

Cons: it will annoy some people that they cannot cheezemeister this card anymore.

Discussion: did ICE indeed have a reason to make this card duplicable for heroes but not for minions? Minions tend to have bigger companies and be slightly stronger in prowess, but does that justify this difference? After all, if the company is much larger (larger than 5), the difference is reduced anyway.

I like it duplicable as a defense against Minion CvCC beat downs, so no.

Discarding 3 of them in case your first rolls fails is also bit pathetic though, especially for a minion!
And there is no objection to playing one after another, so that would be just a timing issue. Now it's more of a dump card, and minions already have a speed advantage.

Ok, it is safe to say the voting period is over, and this one has failed for both lack of votes and support
