The Walloon "nationals" will take place during the 5th edition of Cartazimut, the annual gaming week-end in Mons (Belgium).

If you live in Northern France, Belgium, The Netherlands... or anywhere else in the world, feel free to join us.

A final reason to join us (if you really needed one): it is your last chance to play against Luigi in Belgium as he will finally return to Italy in October!

Yes.
This tourney is above all about having pleasure playing.

Of course the proxies will have to be of decent quality (e.g. colour photocopy) as it will help if your opponent is not too familiar with the card.

Walloon "nationals" results

Post by Gollum 51 » Wed Oct 15, 2008 7:43 pm

Dear MECCG community members,
We have had a great tournament.

11 French-speaking players gathered in Mons last week-end for what was Luigi's farewell tournament since he goes back soon to Italy.

Special congratulations to Nicolas "Big Red" Dewiere for his (easy) victory, to Luigi for his 2nd place (possibly his best tournament result ever) and to Fred who is now the reigning Walloon champion (for our friends from outside of Europe, especially American ones  (only joking), a Walloon is a French-speaking Belgian).

Congrats also to Claudio for his first tournament.

And here are the full results (4 rounds):
1. Big Red (France) - 21pts - Fallen Alatar going underdeep
2. Luigi Sbaffi (Italy) - 15pts - Aggressive Hoarmuth
3. Fred Prevot (Belgium) - 14pts - Balrog
4. Franck Stassin (FRA) - 14pts too but lost to Fred - Sage-heavy hero
5. Herve Duval (FRA) - 13pts (2 wins and a draw) - Hero return of the king
6. Dominique Bergeret (FRA) -13pts (2 wins) - Hero coastal
7. Stephane Hemberg (BEL) -13pts but lost to Dominique - Hero
8. Stephane Poirette (FRA) - 11pts - Fallen Saruman
9. Matieu Sallustio (BEL) - 10pts - Sauron
10. Claudio Stefanetti (BEL) - 8pts - Modified Gandalf challenge deck
11. Tristan Alleman (BEL) - 6pts - Galadriel, Celeborn and their hobbit friends

A few highlights:
- Franck managed to bring out Army of the dead against Big Red - quite something
- Fred's Balrog' henchmen getting lost underdeep. "Troll 1: I thought you had taken the map with you. Troll 2: No, I tought you had!"

This tournament has rekindled interest for MECCG in the small French-speaking community and hopefully you will see more of us at Lure and on gccg soon.

to all players, please feel free to add you own tournament reports.

Here's my report of the tournament.

I played with Numenoreans' Heirloom deck (see http://www.meccg.net/dforum/viewtopic.php?p=20847#20847).
My goal was to finish within the first half so at least fifth.

First round

I played vs. Tristan who played hero in the vale of Anduin with Galadriel.
An early successfull Call of Home on his Frodo screwed his strategy.
My deck worked not very well in second half of the game and he succeeded influencing 2 factions.
Thus I sided News of Doom and he lost his factions in this manner !
Finally I won this game 23-17 and no faction for my opponent, no Anduril reforged and no Army of the Dead roused for me.
It was thus a good start with a 4-2 victory.

Second round

I played vs. Hervé who played hero in Gondor with Aragorn.
During character draft, Aragorn was bounced.
Just after I played Strider and was very surprised seeing him playing Arwen at the same time ... he didn't knew the use of Strider as back-up in character draft !
(In fact no remorse for him, because I started and had Aragorn right in my hand).
Our hazard parts worked very well, and after 3 turns each, I only played Reforging and he played nothing and lost Arwen !
After that my resource part worked very well and his hazard part didn't work.
When he started his last turn, I had thus 22 MPs and he had only 4 MPs (having played only Torque of Hues).
He made 4 companies of one character to try to rouse 4 factions.
But with Scatha at Home, Lord of the Carrock and Times are Evil in play, and Foolish Words or Shut yer Mouth on almost every character, it was impossible to rouse any faction !
He could only play Nenselde the Wingild.
Finally I won this game 22-8 and no faction for my opponent, no Anduril reforged and no Army of the Dead roused for me.
With a 6-0 victory I was second tie (1. Nicolas 12, 2. Luigi 10, 2. Franck 10, 4. Fred 8 ).

Third round

I played vs. Fred who played Balrog in the Under-leas.
I sided every turn (no problem of halving HL with his 6-size company and with Gandalf the White Rider out) a specific card to counter him.
But as counterpart it slowed my resource part.
He failed at influencing Orcs of Moria with The Balrog, because of Scatha at Home, Times are Evil, and Tidings of Doubt and Danger (enhanced with his Doors of Night).
His roadblock semi-strategy with Long Winter hampered me just a little because :
- I took care to untap The Stones only when it was not in play,
- I used the unaffected Isle of the Ulond to search for Reforging,
- I played Master of Wood, Water or Hill on the site path of Stone-circle to avoid it being tapped.
Finally I lost this game 24-20 and no faction for my opponent, Anduril reforged with Narsil's shards and no Army of the Dead roused for me.
With a 4-2 defeat I stayed second tie (1. Nicolas 17, 2. Franck 12, 2. Fred 12, 4. Luigi 11).

Fourth round

I played vs. Nicolas who played fallen-Alatar.
I had very little chance to win against such a tough opponent.
I had only a very precious advantage (or more precisely a great disadvantage for him) : my hazard part doesn't contain any Nazgul, Dragon and Mouth !
I focused on my influence reduction hazard part, limited access to my sideboard, and above else focused on my resource part to make only race for MPs.
My resource part worked very well, and during my last turn I was very proud to play the Army of Dead ! Moreover for 12 MPs because he didn't influenced any faction !
During his last turn, he played naturally The Great Hunt but won only 5 kill MPs (killing Beorn, the Master of the Carrock !).
Finally I lost this game 37-34 and no faction for my opponent, no Anduril reforged and Army of the Dead roused for me.
With a 4-2 defeat I move back third tie (1. Nicolas 21, 2. Luigi 15, 3. Fred 14, 3. Franck 14).

I ended thus 4th (because I lost against Fred) and was proud of this result with my deck, because finally during the whole tournament none of my opponents ended with any faction !
And I reforged Anduril once and roused Army of the Dead once.

Thanks to Luigi and Xavier for organizing the tournament !
