MECCG cards and other stuff and where to get them

Post by Wacho » Fri Mar 07, 2008 10:45 pm

Since you can't simply go to the corner game store anymore and expect to find cards to buy here's some helpful info.

First of all there are 7 MECCG sets.  They are in order:

Middle Earth: The Wizards [METW]-- The basic set.  Available in limited (black border) and unlimited editions (blue border).  Total of 484 cards distributed in starter decks and boosters.  If you want to play hero this is the set you need.  Also region cards came in the boosters and were only available in this set.

Middle Earth: The Dragons [METD]-- 180 cards.  Boosters only.  Introduced hoard items and lots of dragon and drake hazards.

Middle Earth: Dark Minions [MEDM]-- 180 cards.  Boosters only.  Introduced agents and underdeeps.

Middle Earth: The Lidless Eye [MELE]-- Basic set for minion alignment.  Starters and boosters.  Total 417 cards.  With this set you can play as a Ringwraith and work for Sauron.

Middle Earth: Against the Shadow [MEAS]-- 170 cards.  Boosters only.  This set focused on balancing out minion vs. hero play.

Middle Earth: The White Hand [MEWH]-- 122 cards.  Boosters only.  With this set you can play a Fallen-Wizard, a wizard out for his own gain.

Middle Earth: The Balrog [MEBA]-- 104 new cards.  Available in 2 fixed decks.  The two decks are Shadow-Deeps and Balrog's Host.  With this set you could play as The Balrog.

If you end up collecting MECCG you might find yourself interested in cards from other languages, special promo cards, books, or other MECCG related items.  In the following threads you can find out everything that was made for the game.

Ok.  Now onto buying cards.  Many sets are still very available.  One of the best places to buy cards in on ebay.  There are a few sellers that offer sets or unopened boxes.  Usually you can find METW, METD, MELE, and MEWH without much trouble.  MEDM I've seen less of but you should be able to still find it around although it may be more expensive.  MEAS is rather rare and you should expect to pay more for it than other sets.  MEBA is almost impossible to find.  The boxes go for $100 or more for each fixed pack on ebay and that's really the only place you can find them.

If you are looking for single cards you can sometimes find them on ebay as well, but a better option is to go to Chris Cable's trading site http://www.meccg.net/trading/ There are a number of people who sell cards as well as a bunch of traders.

Finally, there are several MECCG player/collectors who operate stores that sell boxes and such, plus a few regular game stores that still have some MECCG product.  Since advertisements are not allowed in the forums I won't post links here, but if you search around for them on MECCG sites you can usually find them in the links.

I want to also add as I haven't seen it listed anywhere else....
ICE also had Eye of Sauron rub on tatoos too.

I have one left after all of these years.
I used to be a tournament rep in th eUS and worked pretty close with Bob when he was with ICE.
