Typically, this deck is played in the following manner.

Turn 0: Get acquainted with the common and uncommon anti-ring tricks.
Turn 1: Go to Lorien or improvise.
Turn 2-3: Play brooches, gather dwarves, get a precious gold ring using the great road and send Kili and/or Gloin running.
Turn 3-4: Get the scroll preferably at Cirith Ungol or Minas Morgul.
Turn 4-6: Be well protected. Dunk.

Hazards fall basically in the dump&run category. Just be careful with that Khamul and remember to use the Witch-King to avoid getting mutilated by sellswords and chill dousers while heading towards Mt. Doom  .

Enjoy the deck or torment your opponent according to your preferences.

This is an incredibly good deck! One of the few to ever dunk on me  .

I have a couple questions for you:

(1) About the Wizard: you have 3 And forths and 2 Eyes; that's 5 cards that can't be used without Pallando. But you also have a lot of dwarves in the deck, which means you probably won't draw pallando turn 1. Have you had trouble in the respect? Or do you tend to get him right away? I ran a dunk deck for the gccg tourney with only 3 radagast in the deck, and I didnt get to play him until turn 3 in two games and turn 2 in the other. Am I just unlucky? Should I not play One Ring?....

(2) What is your standard starting company?

(3) What items do you put on which characters? I don;t like the little dwarves cuz they can get seized... Do you keep everything on the big guy and pallando?

Thanks!!!

Thanks! An early version dumped crams to reach Mt. Doom from Lorien and attempted to lucky search there, but I had to learn the hard way...

(1) Yeah, having the wizard in the starting hand is one of those basic concepts one has to master when going for a dunk :P . If that however doesn't happen, the speed of draw of this deck is such that Pallando should appear by turn 3 at Rivendell. And when he does, I would like to have a forth he hastened in my hand as a protection against skin-changers so that I won't lose one turn or have to resort to tests of form. Besides, when playtesting, I hoped so often to have a forth in my hand that I decided to add one more. This deck just has so many uses for it; skin-changers, rivers (especially), extra sideboarding, extra eyes of mandos/concealment/marvel's told, untap Pallando to play a brooch when he arrives at Lorien, +1 modifier to an important check...etc. And if nothing else, it helps arriving at Mt. Doom before time is called by being an easy discard choice :D . (The vs. minion deck had also 3 forths at the Worlds.)

The reason for keeping both eyes straight in deck is because they are more useful in my experience when played during the first few turns, if played at all, to get a brooch, gold ring, party or the scroll in time. Perhaps one could be replaced with a precious gold ring from sideboard, but I prefer sideboarding a ring in and keeping two in deck, since it's more convenient to draw a ring and play it with great road during turn 2 or 3 than to hold one in hand from the beginning  .

(2) Thrain w/cram, Balin w/cram, Kili, Fili and Bombur/Dori usually. If Thrain gets bounced, I go for Thorin, Oin, Kili, Balin and Bombur if possible. Sometimes I reveal Thrain first, sometimes Balin to see if my opponent reveals Thrain, in which case I follow with Oin to make sure my opponent won't get him.

(3) Thrain carries the ring and Pallando brooches if i suspect getting seized by terror before last turn. Ideally Gloin or Balin should carry the scroll but even then one might consider testing in response to seized.

Baduila query?

Post by diving coconut » Thu Oct 26, 2006 6:18 am

I'm not exactly up with all the rules. But is this a fallen Pallando deck because I can't work out why baduila is in the character slot for resources?

cheers :D

Ran this deck today.

But under my bumbling fingers I was not able to pull it off. Although, I agree this deck is money I'm just not used to swarm dwarves as of yet. The hazards were vicious as my opponent was marshalling around Rivendell with Sam, Billy , Fatty and Votelli. Rivers, assasins and the dark mistress Lobelia soon wiped them off. Of course we kept increasing the h-limit with the powers and Daelomin raining down on Alatar, Beorn and Tom with cycled Assasins, Drakes and the Cave worm. Excellent hazards strategy. To be fair tho' the dwarf body count of eight by the time we got down to Ungol after being bashed about by pumped up wolves and spiders sent Pallando running back to Lorien to pick up more cannon fodder for the return meat grinder back towards Mt Doom. However , Pallando fails his cp check trying to transfer a brooch to Bifur he was already carrying three plus a precious and a biscuit. Damn shame I was holding a mouth, river,s revealed and two powers, Adunaphael on the table. Just had to stay alive (oh that's right we play tourney rules -5 to mp if wizard dies... ripped off again... oh well). Was an awesome game with my buddy.
Some advice please about how to play this deck more effectively would be great. Pretty sure I went south to early and not prepared enough with resources to protect the crew and only had one ring , but I did have three brooches.
Anyways thanks p.s "Z" props for your efforts on this web bro.

New Zealanders still playing this great game.

Baduila! A card count.

Post by diving coconut » Wed Nov 01, 2006 9:22 pm

Doh, stupid me. Scoured the rules trying to work out why Baduila was grouped with the resource characters as opposed to the hazards. The only thing I could work out was that there are ony 29 hazards leaving me to assume that he has be an agent otherwise he wouldn't make his 12 creature limit. Yay worked it out by myself.
